But why do you hear so few success stories from this industry in Germany and how can the interaction of health data and information and communication technology hardware succeed?<\/em><\/p><\/div><h3>Digitization as a barrier to the German healthcare system<\/h3><p>The disruptive energy of digitization is well known. The healthcare industry is also affected &#8211; and Germany is not doing well.<\/p><p>While the German healthcare system used to be regarded as one of the best in the world, it has steadily lost confidence in recent years. According to\u00a0<a title=\"PwC Healthcare Barometer 2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pwc.de\/de\/gesundheitswesen-und-pharma\/healthcare-barometer-2019.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PwC&#8217;s Healthcare Barometer 2019<\/a>, only 55% of Germans still consider it to be one of the top 3 healthcare systems worldwide. This is a decline of 9% in three years. The reasons for this lie largely in the lack of digitization of the entire sector and the lack of innovative power on the part of the state. Countries such as Estonia and Denmark have long since outstripped us on our way to becoming a digital healthcare pioneer. It is frightening that Germany ranks 16th in the\u00a0<a title=\"Bertelsmann Digital Health Index\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bertelsmann-stiftung.de\/de\/unsere-projekte\/der-digitale-patient\/projektthemen\/smarthealthsystems\/digital-health-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bertelsmann Foundation&#8217;s Digital Health Index<\/a>\u00a0and therefore second last. The index measures political strategies, technical readiness and actual data usage in 17 European countries. Germany performs very poorly in all categories. This is definitely not enough for a country that sees itself as the world market leader in innovative technologies.<\/p><p>Nevertheless, it can be seen that something is happening in the right direction.
